Tbilisi is a hospitable city full of joy. It is located on the banks of the Kura River, at the intersection of the main trade routes between Europe and Asia. Previously, Tbilisi was called Tiflis, and the current name came from hot sulfur springs: “tbili” means “warm” in Georgian. – The old city with narrow streets, preserved features of medieval buildings. In the sphere of architecture we will see a particularly noteworthy cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Narikala fortress on the banks of the Kura River and the Metekhi church. In the VI century the oldest cathedral in Tbilisi was built – Anchiskhati, the cathedral – Zemo Betlemi, Sioni – the residence of the Patriarch of Georgia (where St. Nino’s cross is kept), the temple of David Goredjiysky on Mtatsminda mountain and many other places. Modern quarters of Tbilisi have a more European look, beautiful multi-storey buildings look out on the wide boulevards and avenues with shady trees. In Tbilisi there is a large number of architectural monuments – mostly XVII – XIX centuries. The main tourist areas are the central districts of Abanotubani, Sololaki, Avlabar, Old Town and Rustaveli Avenue
