Excursion to the region of Samtskhe-Javakheti – Vardzia. This trip we usually recommend to combine with a visit to Borjomi – a resort town in Borjomi gorge with famous mineral springs, visiting the park and tasting popular water directly from the source. The same tour involves a visit to the Green Monastery. The name “Green Monastery” alone draws a picture of a quiet and ancient monastery, which is located far from the worldly bustle among beautiful high mountains, dense green forests and on the bank of a fast, noisy river. The Green Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Georgia. According to experts and historians, the monastery complex was dedicated to the heavenly patron of Georgia, George the Victorious. Visiting the city of Akhaltsikhe with the fortress of Rabati and the impressive cave monastery complex – Vardzia, whose creation dates back to the 12th century, is an important monument of the Georgian architecture of the Middle Ages. Part of the complex is underground – at a depth of 50 meters, and its ground part reaches the height of the eight-story house. There are about 600 rooms here – and not only for church purposes; In the complex remained the remains of baths, residential cells, refectory, storerooms, libraries. In Vardzia, there are many secret passages. A special interest of many guests is the medieval water supply and irrigation system, which are also partially preserved. In the center of the monastery is the main temple in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.
